SAN DIEGO, April 25, 2012. For the second consecutive year, Mind Treasures is awarded a $25,000 grant from its local partner San Diego Gas & Electric. This financial support will strengthen the Diamond Neighborhood Literacy Council and its existing literacy projects in the Diamond Neighborhoods (DN) and allow its expansion to more schools, faith-based, and community centers. Since inception in 2008, over 1,400 children, youth, and adults in the DN and its neighboring communities have completed various enrichment literacy programs. The goal is to enroll 2,000 new participants in 2012 into the program. “We are honored to receive SDG&E’s financial support again this year,” said Alex Mazloom, cofounder and executive director of Mind Treasures.
“More and more educational staff and community members are recognizing the importance of enrichment programs (particularly financial literacy) in the future and success of children and youth. SDG&E’s support will ensure that the DN Literacy Council will be able to educate and empower the whole community in the coming years.”
“SDG&E is proud to partner with Mind Treasures to support the Neighborhood Financial Literacy program. The San Diego region will need responsible, ethical, diverse, and prepared civic leaders in the future to lead local governments, schools, colleges and universities, faith-based organizations, small businesses, our military, first responders, and companies like SDG&E. SDG&E is committed to fostering the development of these future leaders. We are honored to partner with Mind Treasures, an organization that is on the front line in developing these future leaders for all of San Diego,” said Pedro Villegas, SDG&E Director of Community Relations.
